Top 4 Dog Lovers Quotes to Make You Smile

Dogs are a bit like life partners, aren’t they? When you meet ‘the one’ you just know!

It may not always start off well, there may be nerves, maybe a little rejection – especially if your grey was mistreated. Just like in any other relationship in life, it takes time to build trust. There are bound to be bumps along the way – but you’ll get there in the end.

And then it hits you. You may look up one day and find your noodle dog staring intensely at you, or you realise just how happy they always are to see you. You know they’ve got your back – just as you have theirs. There have been countless quotes published about dogs, and I’d like to share my four absolute favourites with you.

1. ‘The best thing about dogs is they give their unconditional love to everyone. They don’t care whether you deserve it or not.’ – Author Unknown.

This is so true, isn’t it? It doesn’t matter if you told them off yesterday, or if you’ve been away for a few days. They’re not judgy at all. Apart from our greyhounds, they are the dog world’s greatest sulkers – but they soon get over it.

It doesn’t matter who comes to visit, it could be the worst Mother-in-law or touch-feely Uncle Malcolm, your dog doesn’t care – they love anyone who gives them attention. Show them some love, or even worse, a snack, and they’re belly up on your lounge rug before you can hiss ‘attention whore’.

2. ‘If you don’t own a dog, at least one, there may not necessarily be anything wrong with you, but there may be something wrong with your life.’ Roger Caras.

I can’t imagine not owning a greyhound now. Our family had a spell, after my childhood dog, Jet, died when we were dogless and it always felt like there was something missing.

Obviously, it took time to grieve and recover from Jet’s passing, but once we all had, we brought another pup into the family.

I understand, not everyone is a dog lover, some people are cat people, some adore horses – but the common denominator is they all bring love, affection and companionship into our lives. I think everyone needs to experience unconditional love at least once. Therefore it’s in my Top 4 Dog Lovers Quotes to Make You Smile list.

3. ‘The dog lives for the day, the hour, even the moment.’ Robert Falcon Scott.

Did you know humans are the only species who have an episodic memory? This means they can’t remember what happened yesterday or make plans for tomorrow. They live in the moment.

Sure, situations which have affected them in the past – can trigger them. Our greyhound, Lottie, loves walks, but since Bonfire night this year when we came across someone letting rogue fireworks off, she now hates going out for night walks. She doesn’t remember the night itself – just the fact the noise surprised and distressed her and she associates darkness with the event.

Or when you adopt a dog and it’s wary of all males, it usually means someone has mistreated them in the past. What a lovely way to live though, no regrets or worrying about that power bill in January – just being present and concentrating on the now. No wonder they can be a little dorky!

4. ‘Be the person your dog thinks you are.’ C.J Frick.

This is my favourite dog quote of all time. Dogs don’t care what you look like – George Clooney or Quasimodo? no problem. Put on 30lbs and having a skin breakout? no big deal.

They don’t have an appearance-judgement bone in their bodies. You’re the best thing in the world to them – you provide comfort, food and love. Everything they need.

They miss you when you leave the house, and feel pure excitement and joy on your return. You are a rock star.

Maybe it’s time we all looked at ourselves through the eyes of our dogs!
